Short Screenplay

Yeah, I know this is a fiction website, but a short screenplay should qualify. And, I know it's not properly formatted, either. Do you really want even more white space? I did try to make it easy to read.
I think it's funny in this day and age that I can't seem to get anyone to try their hand at making this. Every person I've given this to, raises their eyebrows at the fact there is a small amount of male nudity in it.
Anyways, if anybody reads this and wants to direct it, or if you want a pdf version, contact me.
I should also note, I wrote this in 2000 and the only work that's registered with the US Copyright Office.

HER CHEMISE

KEIR V. 0.: When Olivia left me, I came home to most of her things gone. One thing she did leave behind was her chemise. (pause) The one I often made love to her in. (pause) It still smelled of her.

FADE IN.

INT. KEIR'S BEDROOM - NIGHT.

KEIR is lying on his side on top of the bedsheets. He's in his early thirties, dressed casually and has short dark hair. His glasses lay on the nightstand.

A silk black chemise is laid out next to him.

He's gingerly running his hand over it, looking sad.

On his left hand, he wears a wedding band.

After hugging the pillow closer to himself, he starts crying.

KEIR V. 0.: I was missing her, but don't know what came over me, when I took her look-alike home to do a little test.

INT. KEIR'S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT.

Keir walks in the front door, followed by CHANDRA. She's in her mid-twenties and, also, brunette.

Both of them look like they had just came from work.

Keir locks the door, as she moves over to the couch and sits down, holding her bag. She sets her bag down, then unbuttons her coat and takes it off.

Keir sits down by Chandra as she casually runs her hand through her hair.

CHANDRA: I'm sorry that she left you.

KEIR: It's not your fault.

Keir looks her over.

CHANDRA: I'm glad that I can help you.

Chandra runs one of her fingers over Keir's mouth.

KEIR: I'm glad you're willing to do this.

A pause.

CHANDRA: I just want to make you happy.

KEIR: Let me go get it.

He calmly gets off the couch and stands up.

KEIR (cont'd): I'll be right back.

Keir walks over to the bedroom, opens the door and moves over to the bed.

The chemise is still lying on the bed.

He looks at the chemise for a while, then takes it off the bed, walks back into the living room and stands in front of her, holding it up for her to view.

Chandra looks at the chemise, then stands up and gently takes the chemise out of his hands.

She looks at him and and he smiles nervously at her.

She walks off into the bedroom and closes the door behind herself.

He turns and looks at the door. Still looking at the door, he sits down on the couch and nervously waits.

INT. KEIR'S LIVING ROOM - NIGHT.

An hour has passed, when the bedroom door opens and Chandra walks out.

She is wearing the black chemise and everything else of hers is fixed differently.

When she stands in front of him, Keir looks at her.

KEIR: Wow. You look a lot like her.

Chandra runs one hand self-consciously over her hair.

CHANDRA: I tried to style my hair exactly the way she had it in the photograph.

Chandra looks at him and he's staring at her.

KEIR: Turn around.

Chandra slowly turns in a circle.

KEIR (cont'd): Sit down.

Keir pats the seat next to him.

Chandra obediently sits down by him.

He looks at her and runs his hand gently over her hair.

She sits there calmly, as he takes off his glasses and sets them on the coffee table, before leaning his head on her shoulder and smiling at her.

KEIR: Where else did you spray the perfume?

CHANDRA: Behind my knees.

KEIR: Where else?

Chandra slides down the straps of the chemise, so they fall off her shoulders.

Keir kisses the nearer shoulder and runs his tongue up the side of her neck.

A smile comes over Chandra's face.

KEIR (cont'd)(whispers): I missed you, Olivia.

The smile drops off her face, as she puts her hand over his zipper.

He watches her undo his belt buckle, then reach for the tab and slide it down.
Keir sits on the edge of the couch and drops his khakis.

Chandra is looking at him, when he runs his hand over her hair again and smiles at her, then starts unbuttoning his shirt.

Keir finally has his shirt unbuttoned all the way, leaving him in his boxers and a white t-shirt.

She very passionately kisses Keir and pulls him closer, before lying down on her back.

Keir runs his hand over one of her thighs, then opens her legs wider apart and climbs on top of her.

Keir is on top of her, when he touches one of her breasts over the chemise and looks at her, then realizes he can't go through with it.

He immediately climbs off her, then sits up.

He picks up his glasses and puts them back on.

KEIR (cont'd): I'm sorry. I can't.

Semi-concerned, Chandra sits up, looking at him, and tries to put her arms around him, but he moves away and gets off the couch.

KEIR V.0.: I could spend hours satisfying my wife. It just wasn't possible with the replacement.

INT. BOOKSTORE - LATE MORNING.

OLIVIA is standing on a ladder near the front of the bookstore.

She's, also, in her mid-twenties and brunette. She looks remarkably like Chandra and could pass as her sister. Her hair is pulled back and she's wearing a long sleeve white shirt with an olive knee length skirt.

Olivia has a couple of books in her arms and she is putting another away.

Keir opens the door and the large bell chimes.

Olivia looks away from what she's doing to see Keir walk in, then turns back to the books and puts another away.

Keir walks over to her and stands near the ladder, as she puts the last book on the shelf.

Olivia calmly smooths back a strand of hair, then straightens her skirt.

She looks at Keir, then moves down the ladder.

She steps off the last step and looks at him.

OLIVIA: Hello.

Keir doesn't say anything.

OLIVIA: What do you want?

KEIR: I really need to talk to you.

Olivia looks at her watch.

OLIVIA: I can't right now, Keir. Meet me at the park at two.

EXT. A PARK -- AFTERNOON.

Keir is sitting on the park bench, alternately feeding pigeons and watching people walking by.

He looks at his watch.

It's half past four.

He looks upset. Keir scratches his head, then gets up. He leaves the bench and walks off.

KEIR V.0.: I should have known she wouldn't show.

INT. KEIR'S KITCHEN -- NIGHT.

Keir walks in and presses the blinking answering machine button. He walks over to the refrigerator and distracts himself by finding something to eat, while the first message is played back.

CHANDRA O.S.: Hi, Keir. This is Chandra. I... (pause) I hope that I helped. (pause) If you want to call me back, you have my number, If you don't, I understand. (pause) OK. Bye.

Chandra hangs up.

Next message.

OLIVIA O.S.: Keir, I still love you, but...

Keir stops and immediately swings around to the answering machine, staring at it.

OLIVIA O.S. (cont'd): We need to talk. I've got to go. Bye.

Olivia hangs up. Keir continues staring at the answering machine.

INT. KEIR'S BATHROOM - NIGHT.

Inside the bathroom, Keir is sitting on the closed toilet, looking a little upset.

He looks at the framed photograph on the counter and picks it up.

He looks at the photograph and kisses it longingly then gets up and walks out of the bathroom into the bedroom.

The chemise is laid out on the bed.

He sits on the bed, still holding the photograph.

Keir runs his hand over the chemise, then sets the photograph face up on the bed.

He stands up, still looking at the photograph and starts taking off his clothes.

He strips off his shirt, then his pants, then his white t-shirt.

He sits back down on the bed, then starts touching the chemise again.

He picks up the chemise and puts it on.

He drops his boxers, then lies down next to the photograph and kisses it again.

INT. KEIR'S BEDROOM - NIGHT.

A few weeks pass and Keir is lying on the bed with Olivia's framed photograph in his arms.

His glasses are on the nightstand and he is wearing the chemise.

Keir is looking up at the ceiling, with a smile on his face.

The doorbell rings.

He sits up and puts the photograph under one pillow, then gets off the bed and quickly changes into some casual clothes.

He flings the chemise on the bed, then rushes to the front door and opens it.

Olivia is standing there, holding a box full of her things.

OLIVIA: Hello.

KEIR: Olivia.

Keir steps aside.

Olivia walks in and goes over to the couch.

She sits down on the couch, as Keir locks the door and walks back to the couch.

He sits next to Olivia.

OLIVIA: I want to give it one more try.

KEIR: Let me help you unpack.

Keir immediately picks up the box and gets up.

He goes into the bedroom and sets the box down on the bed.

Olivia follows him into the bedroom and sees her chemise on the bed.

She walks over to it.

OLIVIA (to herself): I was wondering where I left this.

Olivia picks it up and examines it.

It looks very worn.

She looks at him.

OLIVIA (cont'd) What happened to my chemise?

Keir looks at her with a guilty look on his face.

KEIR: I missed you.

OLIVIA: Someone was wearing this.

KEIR: Olivia, I can explain.

Olivia walks over to the bathroom and flicks on the light.

She notices her photograph is missing and makeup scattered on the counter.

Olivia swings around and walks back over to Keir.

OLIVIA: What's going on here?

Keir looks at the chemise, then her, but doesn't say anything.

Olivia walks back over to the bathroom.

Keir stands there, confused, when Olivia walks in and closes the door.

INT. KEIR'S BEDROOM -- NIGHT.

Some time has passed and Keir is sitting on the bed, watching the door.

The bathroom door opens and Olivia walks out.

She is wearing the black chemise, when she walks over to Keir.

Keir can't take his eyes off her, when she sits down next to him.

He puts his hand on her neck, then turns to her and kisses her.

They are kissing passionately. when Keir starts taking off his shirt and moves closer to her.

Olivia and Keir are staring at each other, as he quickly takes off the rest of his clothes.

He's completely naked and tosses his clothes on the floor, then Olivia kisses him again.

OLIVIA: Lie back and close your eyes. I have a surprise for you.

Keir lies back and closes his eyes.

Olivia gets off the bed, picks up the box and leaves him there.

The front door is slammed, before Keir realizes what happened.

Keir opens his eyes and passively stares up at the ceiling.

KEIR: I did nothing wrong.

EXT. SAME PARK - AFTERNOON

Keir is sitting on the bench and feeding the pigeons.

Olivia shows up and sits down near him.

Keir looks at her, then turns to her and shows her his left hand. His wedding band is still on his finger.

KEIR: See this. I belong to you.

OLIVIA: Give me your hand.

Olivia turns to him and Keir gives Olivia his hand.

She puts her hand over his.

He watches her as she lifts up his hand and slides off his ring.

She flings it on the ground, then drops his hand, gets up and leaves.

Keir passively watches her walk off.

He turns and looks at the ground, scanning for the ring, but he can't find it.

Upset, Keir hurriedly gets off the bench and starts searching frantically for it.

Olivia isn't far away, when she turns back and sees him kneeling on the grass.

She watches for a few seconds, but turns away and walks off.

FADE OUT.
